Merkion vs ChatGPT for LinkedIn posts: which one should a founder use?
ChatGPT can write a LinkedIn post in seconds. Merkion never writes your posts at all. Here is an honest comparison of when each one makes sense for a founder.

We get this question a lot: "Why would I pay for Merkion when I already have ChatGPT?" It is a fair question. We use ChatGPT ourselves. But the two tools solve different problems, and mixing them up is how a lot of founders end up with a feed full of posts that sound like everyone else.
The short answer
- Use ChatGPT if you already know exactly what you want to say and need help with structure, editing or brainstorming.
- Use Merkion if your problem is knowing what to say, staying consistent and sounding like yourself over months, not one post.
- Use both if you want ChatGPT for general work and Merkion as the system that keeps your personal brand on track.
What ChatGPT is good at
ChatGPT is a general-purpose assistant. For LinkedIn it is genuinely useful for:
- Turning messy notes into a first structure.
- Tightening a draft and fixing grammar.
- Brainstorming angles on a topic.
- Keeping context in a Project, so you don't repeat yourself in every chat.
It is also cheap. OpenAI lists a free plan, Go at $8 a month and Plus at $20 a month, with higher Pro tiers for heavy users.
Where ChatGPT falls short for a personal brand
It writes the average post. Ask for a LinkedIn post and you get the most likely LinkedIn post. Polished, structured and interchangeable. We wrote a full guide on how to make AI posts sound less generic.
It doesn't know who you are unless you tell it every time. Memory and Projects help, but nothing forces you to define your positioning, audience, values and guardrails first. Most founders skip that step.
It won't tell you what to post today. It responds to prompts. The blank page is still yours.
It doesn't check your posts against your brand. It will happily improve a post that has nothing to do with what you want to be known for.
It has no view of your balance over time. It can't tell you that you have posted six lessons and zero customer stories this month.
What Merkion does differently
Merkion is a personal brand operating system. It never writes your posts. Instead it gives you the structure around them:
- Brand Map: your positioning, voice, audience, pillars and guardrails, built from 14 branding questions.
- Content Interview: a daily prompt that pulls topics out of your real work.
- Brand Fit score: every draft you write is scored against your Brand Map before you publish.
- Daily Briefing and Brand Health: what to focus on today and how balanced your content is over time.
Side by side
| ChatGPT | Merkion | |
|---|---|---|
| Writes posts for you | Yes | No, by design |
| Documents your brand identity | Only if you write and paste it yourself | Yes, Brand Map from 14 questions |
| Tells you what to post today | No, waits for a prompt | Yes, Content Interview and Daily Briefing |
| Scores drafts against your brand | No | Yes, Brand Fit score |
| Tracks content balance over time | No | Yes, Brand Health |
| Useful outside LinkedIn | Yes, for almost anything | Focused on your personal brand |
| Price | Free, $8 or $20 a month for most people | Brand Map €69 one-off, or €49 a month (€39 billed yearly) with a 7-day free trial |
Can you use both?
Yes, and many of our users do. A workflow that works well:
- Answer the Content Interview in Merkion to find today's topic.
- Write the post yourself, in your own words.
- If you want, use ChatGPT to tighten the structure or catch typos.
- Check the final draft's Brand Fit score in Merkion before publishing.
ChatGPT helps with the writing. Merkion makes sure what you write is actually you.
Which should you choose?
If you post occasionally and already have a clear voice, ChatGPT is probably enough. If you have tried to build a personal brand before and stopped after a few weeks, or your posts sound like everyone else's, the missing piece is not a better writer. It is a system.
